Gabbeh

Gabbeh (گبه)

Baghtiri is a nomadic tribe in Iran that migrates across the Zagros Mountains, moving from the north during summer to the south in winter. They lead a traditional lifestyle, residing in black tents and tending to their horses and goats. The goats provide them with milk, butter, meat, as well as wool and fur, which they utilize for crafting tents and carpets known as Gabeh. We personally acquired three Gabeh carpet pieces made by the Baghtiri nomads during our visit to the region. Notably, these carpets are distinguished by their absence of predetermined designs, as the nomads prefer to follow their instincts and emotions while creating them. The Baghtiri people have served as a profound inspiration to me, leading me to produce ten paintings featuring their unique motifs.

Among the remarkable artworks in this collection, you will find a diverse range of subjects. Number 18 depicts a touching portrayal of a bride and groom, while Number 19 captures the essence of a devoted shepherd. Number 20 showcases the lively and captivating presence of dancing girls, and Number 21 takes on a deeper meaning, symbolizing tombs that represent individuals of different ages and genders. Number 22 offers a unique perspective, illustrating the vigorous process of a woman making butter by shaking goat's milk in a goat skin. Additionally, Number 23 unveils the elegance of a women's wedding dress.

Number 24 beautifully portrays a shepherdess while in Number 25, you will discover the intricate design of men's upper coats, proudly displaying the Boronu gun, a symbol of protection. Number 26 masterfully captures two musical instruments that are an integral part of the tribe's culture, alongside the striking upper coat gun design adorning the shoulder and back. Lastly, Number 27 portrays the spirit of movement, representing the nomadic lifestyle as the tribe travels from one place to another.

Water Colour Paintings.

Watercolor painting is the process of painting with pigments that are mixed with water. Of all the painting processes, watercolor painting is known for its inherent delicacy and subtlety because watercolor art is all about thin washes and transparent color (though watercolors can be made opaque with the addition of Chinese white). Traditionally, watercolor artists work on paper, though the tooth of the surface can vary greatly.

Collage Artworks.

A collage is a piece of art that incorporates a variety of materials. It often involves gluing things like paper, cloth, or found objects onto a canvas or board and incorporating that into a painting or composition. The exclusive use of photos in collage is called photomontage.
